We left behind our parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, uncles and aunts, cousins and friends. We left seeking a chance and opportunity of a better life. Yet once here we long for our food, un picante de pollo, un chicharrón, nuestra llahua, nuestras salteñas, and most of all our Bolivian friends. We look for old friends, we try to find new friends. We invite each other to our birthdays, and parties, we listen to our music and sing our songs, almost always we depart singing “Viva mi Patria Bolivia”. We dance in carnavales and we celebrate 6 de agosto. A group of friends wanted to make these gatherings accessible not only to a small group of friends but inclusive to all the Bolivian community in Chicago and surrounding area, and January 11, 1989, Claudio Cossio, Javier Sichori, Jacqueline Sichori, Ramiro Corrales, Marcela Corrales, Jenny Corrales, Silvana Valdivia, Jose Antonio Kredler, Juan Carlos Torres and Taniana Torres met and the dream of our founder Claudio Cossio became true. The mission of Renacer Boliviano is “To assist the needy in Bolivia, and its community in the United States of America, and to disseminate the Bolivian culture”. For this purpose we prepare several events throughout the year, such as: Fiesta de Carnavales, Summer Festival, Fiesta del 6 de agosto, and the presentation of Bolivian folkloric groups in the City of Chicago.
